Zero Day ThreatByron Acohido Banks and Cybercrooks
Byron Acohido
Author, Zero Day Threat; Technology Journalist, USA TODAY

Internet-enabled data theft and financial scams have flourished in large measure because banks, credit bureaus, and other financial institutions have reneged on their security responsibilities. The crimes may be carried out by "exploiters"—the drug addicts, scam artists, and crime lords who carry out the gritty aspects of data theft and financial fraud, but they couldn't succeed without "enablers"—the credit card companies, banks, and credit bureaus who broker data; not to mention the "expediters"—the technology experts running the gamut from white hat to black.

Since 2001, Byron Acohido has led the newspaper's cutting-edge coverage of Internet security and cyber crime. He and co-author Jon Swartz have authored Zero Day Threat: The Shocking Truth of How Banks and Credit Bureaus Help Cyber Crooks Steal Your Money and Identity, a tour de force examination of Internet-enabled data theft and financial scams. Byron Acohido will do a book signing at the conference bookstore following his keynote session.
